Wild Compass After School Programs

Join Wild Compass Naturalists on a journey through the world of insects! This year’s After School theme, Mini Beasts: Gotta Catch ‘Em All!, invites students to explore the amazing, often-overlooked world of bugs and their role in our environment.

Each month, students will dive into a new topic through hands-on science, outdoor exploration, art, and games—and take home a custom insect figurine they create themselves! Can you collect them all?

Our After School programs are grant-funded and completely free for participating schools. Wild Compass is proud to provide opportunities for kids to discover science, connect with nature, and build curiosity that lasts a lifetime.
November – Gettin’ Buggy!
Kick off the adventure by becoming an entomologist—a scientist who studies insects! Learn how to identify, collect, and observe these tiny creatures up close.

December – Insect Imposters
Spiders, worms, and slugs—are they insects or something else? Meet nature’s recyclers and explore our live red wiggler worm farm!

January – Incredible Insects and Their Amazing Adaptations

From camouflage to mimicry, find out how insects survive and thrive in our big world through games and creative crafts.

February – Ew! Why Are Bugs Here?
Discover how insects keep ecosystems running smoothly—and even try edible insects as we learn how bugs are part of food systems around the world!

March – Pollinators: Who Are They?
Learn about butterflies, bumblebees, and other pollinators who make so much of our food possible through engaging activities and outdoor observation.
